2026 CleanBC Rebates Explained — How to Get Up to $16,000 Back on Your Heat Pump

April 2026By Grove Mechanical Ltd.

If you've been putting off upgrading to a heat pump because of the upfront cost, 2026 might be the best year in BC history to make the move. The provincial government's CleanBC programs have never offered more generous rebates — but many homeowners don't know they qualify, or find the application process confusing.

Here's exactly how it works.

The Three Main Programs

1. Better Homes BC (No Income Requirement)

This is the most accessible program. If you're switching from electric baseboard heating or an electric furnace to a heat pump, you qualify for a $4,000 rebate. No income verification required. Available to all BC homeowners.

2. Energy Savings Program (Income-Qualified)

This is where the big money is. If your household income qualifies, you can receive $10,500–$16,000 for switching from gas to a heat pump, plus an additional $5,000 for an electrical service upgrade if needed. This program is specifically designed to make heat pumps accessible for moderate-income BC families.

3. ESP Condo Program

Strata residents and apartment dwellers aren't left out. The Condo program offers up to $5,000 in rebates for eligible upgrades in multi-unit buildings.

What Qualifies for a Rebate?

  • Air source heat pumps (ducted and ductless)
  • Cold climate heat pumps
  • Heat pump water heaters (up to $3,500)
  • Heat recovery ventilation (HRV) systems
  • Electrical service upgrades to support heat pump installation

What Doesn't Qualify

  • Air conditioning only systems
  • Gas furnace replacements (with another gas furnace)
  • Portable or window AC units
