The project
The Dave Lennox Signature Collection dual fuel system is the most efficient heating system available in Canada — combining a Lennox XP25 variable-capacity heat pump with a Lennox SLP99V 99% AFUE gas furnace. Grove Mechanical installed this top-of-the-line system for a homeowner who wanted maximum efficiency, maximum comfort, and the peace of mind of a system that automatically selects the most cost-effective energy source at every outdoor temperature. The iComfort S30 thermostat manages the switchover seamlessly — heat pump when it's economical, gas when it's not.
The iComfort S30 must be programmed with the correct balance point temperature — the outdoor temperature at which switching from the heat pump to gas becomes more economical. Grove Mechanical's Lennox-certified technicians calculated and set the balance point based on local utility rates and the home's heat loss, ensuring the system always runs at the lowest possible cost.
The Dave Lennox Signature Collection requires all components — heat pump, furnace, and thermostat — to be matched and communicating for full variable-capacity operation. Grove Mechanical installed and commissioned the complete matched system to unlock the full 26 SEER2 and 99% AFUE ratings.
Variable-capacity systems move air at much lower speeds than single-stage equipment. The duct system must be properly sized to avoid static pressure issues at low-speed operation. Grove Mechanical performed a full Manual D duct calculation and modified the supply and return to match.
The homeowner now has the most efficient dual fuel heating system available in Canada. The Lennox iComfort S30 automatically manages the switchover between the heat pump and gas furnace — the homeowner never has to think about it. At 26 SEER2 cooling and 99% AFUE heating, operating costs are as low as they can be for a gas-connected home. The installation is clean, professional, and built to last.
The Dave Lennox Signature Collection is Lennox's top-tier product line — the XP25 heat pump reaches 26 SEER2 with variable-capacity operation, and the SLP99V furnace achieves 99% AFUE with a modulating gas valve. Together with the iComfort S30 thermostat, the system communicates as a single unit and automatically optimizes between gas and electric heat for the lowest possible operating cost at every outdoor temperature.
The iComfort S30 thermostat is programmed with a balance point temperature — typically between -5°C and -15°C depending on local utility rates. Above that temperature, the heat pump runs because electricity is more economical. Below it, the gas furnace takes over because gas becomes the cheaper heat source. The switchover is automatic and seamless.
