The project

About This Project

The homeowners had a clear vision: a heat pump system that matched their home's beautiful aesthetics — inside and out. They'd seen the standard HVAC installs: bulky white boxes, exposed line sets, outdoor units that looked like industrial equipment dropped into a garden. That wasn't going to work for this home. Quilt was the answer. The matte-black outdoor unit sits in the landscaped garden like a piece of furniture — flanked by raised cedar beds, flowering shrubs, and a mature tree in full bloom. You'd walk right past it. Inside, the slim Quilt indoor heads are mounted high on the wall in each room, their clean rectangular profile blending into the architecture rather than fighting it. Grove Mechanical handled the full installation: three indoor zones covering the nursery, master bedroom, and living area, all connected to a single outdoor unit with clean, concealed line sets. Every detail was considered — the routing of the refrigerant lines, the placement of each head, the height and angle of each unit. The result is a home that's comfortable year-round, with a system that looks like it was designed by the architect, not bolted on as an afterthought.

After

Challenges We Solved

1Aesthetics as a non-negotiable requirement

The homeowners had a beautifully designed West Coast home and were not willing to compromise its look for HVAC. Every placement decision — outdoor unit location, indoor head height, line set routing — was made with the home’s design in mind first.

2Three zones, one outdoor unit

Balancing three zones of different sizes (nursery, master bedroom, and living area) from a single outdoor unit required careful load calculation to ensure each zone receives the right capacity without over- or under-conditioning.

3Concealed line sets throughout

Routing refrigerant lines through the walls and ceiling without visible chases required careful planning during the installation phase to achieve the clean, finished look the homeowners expected.

The Result

A 3-zone Quilt heat pump system that heats and cools the entire home with precision — and looks like it was designed by the architect. The outdoor unit blends into the garden, the indoor heads disappear into each room, and the homeowners have year-round comfort without sacrificing the aesthetics they worked hard to create. This is what HVAC should look like.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Quilt different from a standard heat pump?

Quilt was designed from the ground up to be aesthetically integrated into the home. The outdoor unit has a matte-black finish and a low-profile form factor that looks intentional in a garden or beside a house. The indoor heads are slimmer and more rectangular than standard mini-splits, designed to blend into the wall rather than protrude from it.

Is Quilt available in BC?

Yes. Grove Mechanical is one of only a select few certified Quilt installers in the Lower Mainland. We handle the full installation including HVAC, electrical, permits, and CleanBC rebate paperwork.

Can I get a CleanBC rebate on a Quilt heat pump?

Current program eligibility depends on the home, existing heating, selected equipment, provider requirements, and documentation. Grove can review the project and relevant published terms; the applicable administrator determines eligibility and payment.

How many zones can a single Quilt outdoor unit support?

Quilt outdoor units support multi-zone configurations. This installation serves three zones from a single outdoor unit. The exact number of zones depends on the size of the home and the capacity of the outdoor unit selected.

How long does a Quilt installation take?

A typical 3-4 zone Quilt installation takes 1-2 days. Grove Mechanical handles everything: equipment supply, installation, electrical connection, line set routing, commissioning, and rebate paperwork.
